Tantalizing Tuesday - Menace

“Hold still.”
Marla tried not to look. She squeezed her eyes shut and held her breath, but it still seemed she was vibrating. A high keen escaped.
“Is it gone?” she begged.
“Not yet. You are okay. Don’t freak out.”
Easy for him to say, he didn’t have death walking across his collarbone.
The black menace had infected more in a week than AIDS in a decade. Of course it did. Who would be afraid of a butterfly?
“Seriously, David. Tell me what to do.”
“What do you feel?”
“FREAKED OUT!” Marla shouted.
The black wings opened and closed and Marla slapped a hand over her mouth. This was it. She was a dead woman. It would take hours to kill her, but her fate was sealed.
“Wait.” David leaned in, examining her pale skin. “There’s nothing there. No mark.”
Marla’s brow furrowed. They bit and left a black spidery residue behind. “But, it flew away. They don’t do that.” Marla shuddered more now that she didn’t need to hold still. “Where did it go?”
David shrugged. “That doesn’t matter. What’s important is that we get back in the compound.”

Behind the netting and electric fence, all for a butterfly.

Ack! Get it off! No, just kidding. Make sure you check the other teasers by visiting the blog.
