One night of passion
Clara Hervaux wants to go back to New Orleans and celebrate Halloween with Marcel at Club Desire. But things are complicated now that the movie star is the target of some crazy fan who’s been threatening her. How can she ditch the bodyguards that follow her around? Is it safe to go there alone? Will she be able to keep her escapades at the club as a secret? Or will she disappoint her favorite ghost and fail to spend Halloween night with him this year?
Sprawled on a big, soft couch, I was reading some kinky novel in the library, my favorite room of the house. Henry stormed in and threw a bunch of sheets of paper on my lap. They were covered in words and letters cut-out from magazines and newspapers, which made them look like something out of an old-fashioned, film noir flick. You know, those classic black and white films where some Bogart-looking actor plays an anti-hero, usually a cynical private detective. He’s approached by a mysterious femme fatale who wishes to hire him either to find out who’s after her or to help her get rid of someone.
“What’s that, sweetie? The studio head’s idea of a clever pitch for a remake? Or did the printer break down?”
“Very funny, Clara. They’re the letters I’ve told you about. There’s a new one every day. Sometimes two. We should go to the police.”
“Nonsense! Forget about them.”
“I can’t. You’re in danger.”
“You’re overreacting. I’m not in danger. Throw them away. Burn them. I don’t care what you do, just get rid of these letters. They don’t mean anything.”
“But, they say they’ll take you away. They go into a lot of details about what they’ll do to you once they get you. I must confess I have nightmares about some of them. We can’t sit on our hands and do nothing.”
I grabbed a few of them, skimmed them over and showed them to my overzealous assistant.
“Here, darling, look. They say they’ll teach me a lesson because I’m a slut who ruined George Clooney’s marriage. You know I didn’t wreck George’s marriage in real life. My character had an affair with his character in a damn movie. Why would I worry about these letters, for crying out loud? They’re a load of crap.”
“Because whoever is writing them is clearly insane, that’s why. There’s no need to be afraid of mentally healthy people.”
I petted the couch beside me. After hesitating for a couple of seconds, Henry sat beside me and I ran a hand over his muscled thigh.
“Relax, will you?” I kept stroking his leg as I spoke softly in his ear. “I’m not afraid of this lunatic. I don’t want to lose my precious freedom over something so ridiculous. And that’s what’s going to happen if Peter finds out about these threats, you know.”
I kissed his neck before tracing his ear with the tip of my tongue. He shivered, but went on talking, although his voice sounded throaty.
“As your manager, that is his job. Besides, I saw somebody following us in a tinted-glass SUV the other day.”
Henry’s breath was choppy by then, which was an excellent sign, since I had been trailing soft, open-mouthed kisses up and down his neck, along his tightly set jaw. I nibbled his earlobe while he stroked my inner thigh, under my short skirt, until he reached its top.

1.   When did you start writing?
In Grade Six, as our final assignment, I outlined a three part play and wrote several chapter stories. I set the pen aside after University, though, and returned to it in 2010. Since then I haven’t taken more than a few months off.

2.   What makes your stories unique?
I like the flaws in my characters. There’s something to me that rings true when someone slurs their esses or eats sloppy or can’t seem to not drop things.

3.   Is there a common thread that runs through your books?
I have written in many genres and worlds, so I don’t know that there is one. Often they have Happy For Now endings. I believe stories don’t end, they just continue off the page.

4.   If money was of no concern, what would you envision as your perfect lifestyle?
I’d love to live somewhere secluded with a good internet connection. That way I could enjoy wilderness and still feed my writing and reading goals.

5.   Besides writing, what things are you most passionate about?
I’m an environmental consultant, a botanist specifically, so I’m passionate about the damage we are doing to our world and how ecosystems and communities will be able to adapt. I’m also passionate about my daughter. She is my world most days.

Is her true love in her shadow?

Magic just became real for Paige Brown. Since she helped her roommate cast a spell, she has wanted to explore her new-found talent. Flashback to her ancestor give her clues, specifically to a love spell that she hopes will snag the professor she has been fantasizing about. Both Paige and her previous incarnation, Jane, fine that controlling magic is more than a simple recipe. Will Paige be able to break her own spell? Will she discover the love that is closer than she knows?
Summer dug in the garden, pulling weeds from desirable flowers and herbs. It was a slow and tedious task, but the sun warmed her arms and neck, prohibiting any ideas of going inside. Gwen and Paige were both on campus for differing reasons. Summer jealously held onto her weekends and refused to let anything from school invade them. Well, anything but the assignments that couldn’t be put off.
It still shocked her that she knew the names of so many of the plants. Her parents lived in an apartment, so they kept a few flowers in pots. Somehow she knew not only what each of the ones here were, but what Mary used them for. The dreams grew more vivid and detailed. She wouldn’t claim to be a witch, but she was glad to know a few teas, like chamomile, that helped to calm nerves and ease minds. Those would be very useful when she found a job.
Summer froze, her trowel still an inch above the bed. “How did you get out here?” she asked the air. There was no mistaking that presence. She still didn’t know who he had been, but after a month it seemed obvious to her that he was masculine. Something in his bearing, which she couldn’t see, and his stature gave the impression he was taller than her.
There was no answer, but a breeze rustled the leaves and the ghost sat next to her on the ledge.
“I refuse to be put off by you. You can haunt the house all you like. I’m not going anywhere. This is my family’s house. Who are you to haunt it anyway?”
It occurred to her that he might be a distant ancestor. Aunt Marge said no one had reported the house as haunted and that there was no record of a death in the house. Even Mary, tried as a witch, died in the square, not the house.
The ghost didn’t answer, but he did leave, not before touching her arm and making her shiver. Upstairs, washing the soil off her hands, he returned. It had become less oppressive all the time, and she was actually getting used to him, dammit.
She had the sense he was looking at her in the mirror. It felt like hands slipped around her waist, and she tipped her head to the side. Goosebumps flooded her skin and she could have sworn he kissed her neck. Shuddering, she leaned forward, gripping her vanity.
“Whoa. I don’t think I’m ready for a frisky ghost. Tell you what, you don’t do that again and I won’t try to push you away.”
There was no way of gauging his response, but he didn’t grab her again. Instead he brushed her hand, something she thought she could get used to in time.

Juliana Haygert ~ Gypsy Heart ~ One of 20+ stories in Creatures #paranormal #romance #boxedset #99cents

Mythical Creatures with

Choosing one favorite mythical creature is hard! I like so many of them! I’ve written about a few—gods, demons, witches, ghosts … and I have unpublished manuscripts about vampires, werewolves, fae, and more. I actually invented a few on some of these manuscripts. That’s the fun part about writing, right? Being able to create new things, new worlds … But if I do have to choose one, I would say witches. The cool thing about witches is that you can do anything you want with them. They can be good witches, evil witches, elemental witches, more like psychic powers witches, or they can have one specific gift and no other kind of magic. They can be linked to Salem and/or witch trials, they can be born or made, they can have grimoires and depend on potions and enchanted objects. Or not. There are no rules and we can have fun with them. For the Creatures boxed set, I actually invented a “mythical” creature. They are called Tziganes and they are like gypsies but with real, powerful magic. They are just like witches in that sense—the powers and how they use them and the fact that some part of them is human—but laced with gypsies’ traditions and setting. It was fun to write about my dear, mysterious Tziganes and I hope my readers like it too. Juliana Haygert is the Author of Gypsy Heart.

If twenty year old Mirella could just pretend she wasn’t a gypsy for one second, maybe her life wouldn’t suck. But turning off her enhanced sixth sense isn’t something she can do. When she’s attacked by mysterious masked men, questions and fear rise. And the answers probably lie with Mirella’s mother, the same woman who she hasn’t spoken with in over a year. Their reencounter is unpleasant, as is learning the truth that Mirella is more than just a gypsy. She’s a Tzigane, a line of very powerful gypsies, and because she doesn’t live in a secured enclave, she’s an easy target for the Alchemists—a group obsessed with Tzigane’s magic. Her mother and two enemy enclaves fight to teach her how to control her magic, when all Mirella wants is to go to college and go out with the guy she’s crushing on—while ignoring the trail of bodies amassing around her. But living free brings danger to her friends’ lives, and Mirella will have to choose between continuing to pretend to be normal or letting her inner power take over to engage in a century old battle where the price might be her own life.

“I don’t know what you've heard about me, but I’m not in that sort of business. I’m a concierge, not a concubine!”
To her retreating back, he lobbed, “And, I want neither of those. I want you.”

Kaput—all her ability to resist was over. Reputation, hard work, and goals evaporated into ashes as she lost the battle and gave into his searing kiss.
Sure, she’d kissed a few guys and had fooled around here and there. Bronwyn had even gotten so far as to explore with intimate touching of her full breasts with a guy as they made out. Dry humping another guy the only time she’d ever allowed herself to drink on a date still didn’t compare to the way Mac was kissing the hell out of her. How could kissing be so freaking amazing? Except for his embrace to hold her steady, their only contact was this magical kiss. The man didn’t touch her breasts that ached for attention, nor did he roam her body with his hands. How was he doing this to her with a kiss?
New sensations too wondrous to try to identify had her body arching and straining up and into his massive one. Barely allowing her time to take in air before slaying her senses again with his tongue, Mac marched her up to the point she thought she’d explode with the overload of emotions coming at her. This, this was some next-level, seduction she couldn’t have ever been ready for.
“Wait, hold up, stop,” she managed to get out after another brief separation.
His answer? Was to suck her bottom lip as the tip of his tongue flicked and teased her into submission.
She pushed back, releasing her lip with a pop. The effect produced a drenching of her panties. This man! Instead of saying a word, the look of gorgeous bedevilment greeted her. In that moment Bronwyn knew she was completely lost to escaping the promises behind that look.
“Okay fine! You’ve got my attention,” she said through heavy breaths.
“Just your attention? I see my work has only begun.”
He used his tongue to trace the outline of her lips. Never had something so audacious been done to her—her! He used that tip like it was a whip to draw her back in. Each flick and taunt coaxed her mouth back into submission until he plunged in again to claim victory over her sanity. Throwing her hands up in the air in unconscious surrender, Mac wasted no time gathering her up and bringing her right back to the middle of that bed where she’d started.

#MidWeekTease Swan Lake - A shock

Welcome to the MidWeekTease! I'm sharing another snippet from my Swan Lake retelling. Poor Odette is in for a shock. Don't miss all the other great teases this week!

Borrowed from We Heart It
Flapping wings and pedaling feet through the water, Odette lifted up, hovering above the pond she and Anna had found to practice flying.
Anna tried next and Odette honked encouragement. They were improving, taking to air nearly every attempt. Staying airborne was still an issue.
“Nearly there!” Odette told her. “If we can just manage a little more, we can make it to the pool at the palace.” That was their goal. When night fell, they would be able to present themselves.
“I’m going to try again.” Anna was the weakest of the pair. Odette might have cleared the remaining distance yesterday, but she couldn’t leave Anna behind. There was also an even chance she wouldn’t make it the entire stretch. Ending her flight on land would require time to reach a new water body. Normal swans might be able to take off from a standing start, but Odette couldn’t.
Anna sprinted over the water, pushing with her wings. She lifted off the surface and over the trees. Before she could circle back, Odette honked. “Keep going! I’m behind you!” Using more power than her previous attempt, Odette lifted off the surface of the water, over the trees and past the still-flapping Anna.
“Glide!” Odette told her, using one great push to circle around beside her friend.
Anna wobbled in the air, spreading wing and tail feathers until she could control her position. She started falling, but like Odette, she only need a good push to rise again.
“To the palace!” Swooping past, Odette hurried to the pool and was surprised to find it nearly surrounded by people.Sun low in the horizon, the royals would normally be taking their meal, indoors. Today, however, they gathered around a golden couple, both blond and shimmering.
Odette slipped into the water, swimming toward them.
“Siegfried!” She recognized her lover immediately, but who was the girl beside him?
“I take you, Odile, as my bride and future queen.”
Odette froze, momentum pushing her toward the couple she longed to flee. “No.” To her dismay, she couldn’t look away as he kissed the girl. “No!”

Finding her feet again, she swung around and swam away just as Anna approached.

Monica La Porta ~ The Fifth Moon’s Dragon ~ One of 20+ stories in Creatures #paranormal #romance #boxedset #99cents

Mythical Creatures with

MONICA LA PORTA

Creatures AmazonCreatures iTunes
Creatures KoboCreatures B & N
Dragons are my favorite mythical creatures. When I was a kid, I spent long hours imagining what it would be like to own a pet dragon and fly over the clouds, looking at the world from above. I’ve read countless books about dragons, and I never seem to have enough of those stories. From fantasy to steamy paranormal, if there is a dragon, I will read it. There is a sense of freedom I experience any time I find a good dragon novel that leaves me at peace with the world. The sheer power, and at the same time grace and elegance, of such creature when combined with a shifter is an explosive union, and it gives an author plenty of opportunities to write an epic story. When I introduced Dragon Sol in the Fifth Moon’s Tales, all I wanted was a badass sidekick for my werewolf, but Dragon’s character grew sentence by sentence, acquiring all the traits typical of its namesake: loyalty, strength, charm, wittiness. Soon, I couldn’t deny him the story he demanded any longer, and I finally gave in and started writing The Fifth Moon’s Dragon. In the process, I realized that I’ve never truly forgotten my dream as a child. I still want a pet dragon, especially if he comes in the shape of a hunk shape shifter. Monica La Porta is the Author of The Fifth Moon’s Dragon.

Lucinda's in love with a dragon shifter, but will she be able to stand the heat?
Dominic Draco has no illusions about who he is. As alpha of the dragon clan, he is also the leader of the shifter Alliance, and that sometimes requires him to be ruthless. He’s a dangerous man to know. In fact, he’s a heartless bastard. That’s the real reason he’s kept the beautiful Lucinda Lindley at bay for so many years, despite the longing he feels for the lovely human singer. But in granting an old friend’s dying request, watching over Lucinda is now his responsibility. Can he keep her safe from the perils of his world when the Alliance’s enemies begin to circle? Or will Lucinda become a casualty of the shifter faction war?

She looked down at the bouquet of flowers in her hands and smiled. Then she looked up into his eyes and took a couple of steps closer to him as a coy little smile played on her lips. “So … you’re finally admitting we’re a match made in heaven?” She reached out and ran her fingers down the lapel of his suit jacket. He was always so sharply put together, like he’d stepped right out of a GQ magazine spread.
Dominic removed her hand from his chest as he took a step back away from her. “It’s just a job and a bouquet of flowers, Lucinda. This … you and me, it’s not going to happen.”
“So you’ve been telling me since I was seventeen, followed by all the reasons why it shouldn’t.” A sad smile crossed her lips as she watched him. “But you know as well as I do that none of those reasons make sense anymore, Dom. I am not a child, and Daddy isn’t here for you to disrespect.”
Dominic frowned at her. “The man may not be here anymore, but I can still honor his memory by not defiling his daughter.”
“Defile?” Lucinda laughed, but it wasn’t the happy sort. “You have such a high opinion of me. I suppose I should be flattered, but I just can’t be. I am not that virginal fourteen-year-old girl you met all those years ago, Dominic. I was deflowered a long time ago. And you have no idea how badly I've always wished it had been by you.”
Dominic’s gaze dropped to the floor as he let go of a winded sigh, stunned by her confession. How many times had he fantasized about that very thing, only to feel like a perverted ass three seconds later?
“You have always been the star of every fantasy I’ve ever had.” The heavy trace of longing in her voice was evident, but it was something she couldn’t hide if she had tried. “The things I feel for you, I know I’m not feeling them alone. I see the way you look at me, and I’ve tried a thousand times since I was seventeen to tell you that it’s okay to act on those desires, but you still won’t budge.”
“Lucinda, stop.”
“You know, before … I understood your reluctance even though I didn’t like it. But I don’t anymore, Dominic. I don’t understand why you hide from me. You know how I feel, how I’ve always felt. And you want me too, I can see it! Why won’t you just take me?”
Before the words had even passed her lips, he grabbed her, pulling her close as his lips crashed down onto hers and his tongue invaded her mouth. She felt his hand fisting in her hair as he held her head in place. His other hand groped at her ass, pressing her tightly against him. The rock hard protrusion of his erection took her by surprise, and she moaned as the bouquet of flowers hit the floor and her hands went to his hair.
Without warning he pulled away, breaking the spell right along with their kiss, and he glared at her. “This can’t happen,” he panted. He turned and headed for the door, carefully stepping over the flowers. “The place is packed, have a good show!”
